Quantity: 1 Tube

SpecSeal LC129 is a high-solids, latex-based endothermic firestop sealant in a 29 oz tube. When properly installed in an applicable listed system, it seals penetration openings against the spread of fire, smoke, hot gases, and water. Use it for construction joints, gaps, and noncombustible penetrations covered by the specified design.

Application and Adhesion

SpecSeal LC sealant adheres well to virtually all construction surfaces and applies with a standard caulk gun sized for the 29 oz tube. For larger applications, you can trowel it on with a standard mason’s trowel or apply it with a putty knife. Follow the applicable listed design for backing, sealant depth, and other installation requirements.

Flexible Seal With Minimal Shrinkage

Series LC dries with minimal shrinkage to form a flexible seal. Its endothermic fillers absorb heat and release water. Once dry, the latex binder resists water and will not re-emulsify, and the surface can be painted. The compound is non-halogenated and contains no asbestos or inorganic fibers.

  • Standard-tool application: Apply with a 29 oz caulk gun, mason’s trowel, or putty knife
  • Minimal shrinkage: High-solids formula dries to a flexible seal
  • Water resistance after drying: Latex binder will not re-emulsify
  • Paintable finish: Paint once the sealant is dry

Fire Resistance in Listed Systems

SpecSeal Series LC has been tested for up to 4 hours of fire resistance under ASTM E1966/UL 2079, ASTM E814/UL 1479, and CAN/ULC-S115. It is listed in more than 80 UL-tested firestop systems. The rating and suitability depend on the specific tested assembly and installation; these results do not give every LC129 application a 4-hour rating.

LC129, LC120, or LCI?

LC129 and the SpecSeal LC120 20 oz sausage belong to the same LC endothermic sealant family, but their package formats differ. LC129 is the 29 oz tube; LC120 is the 20 oz sausage.

SpecSeal LCI intumescent sealant is a separate product family. Don't treat LC and LCI as interchangeable. Use the sealant named in the applicable listed design.

System Selection and Electrical Safety

LC129 isn't suitable for every fire-rated assembly. The applicable listed system determines the assembly, penetrant, annular space, backing material, and sealant depth. Check the STI system finder for a design that matches your application; the product name alone doesn't establish a fire rating.

Electrical warning: This sealant contains water and is electrically conductive until dry. Do not apply it to or in the presence of energized electrical conductors. Do not apply it in the presence of exposed electrical conductors.

Browse the firestop sealants and fire tape collection to find the product specified for your application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LC129 the Same as SpecSeal LCI?
No. LC129 is part of the SpecSeal LC endothermic sealant family. SpecSeal LCI is a separate intumescent sealant family. Follow the applicable listed design and use the product it specifies rather than substituting one family for the other.
How Does LC129 Differ From LC120?
The package format is different. LC129 is a 29 oz tube, while LC120 is a 20 oz sausage. Both belong to the SpecSeal LC endothermic sealant family. Choose the format specified for your work; the product names do not establish blanket suitability for an installation.
Can LC129 Be Used in Any Fire-Rated Wall?
No. Suitability depends on the applicable listed system, not just whether the wall is fire-rated. Check the assembly, penetrant, annular space, backing, and sealant depth against that design. LC129 does not carry a blanket rating for every installation.
What Electrical Precautions Apply?
LC129 contains water and is electrically conductive until dry. Do not apply it to or in the presence of energized electrical conductors, or in the presence of exposed electrical conductors. Any electrical application must also match an applicable listed design.
